The Book Exchange Was a great success with over 1,000 books brought in. All leftover books were donated to the Children’s Book Bank which benefit children in Regent Park.
We continued our tradition of holding the Habitat for Humanity Gingerbread House event which raised over $10,000, once again exceeding all expectations. Our students were given the opportunity to show empathy and generosity as we again collected winter outerwear for those in need. We focused on helping kids in Toronto, and contributions were made to Queen Victoria Public School.
Our annual event roster saw the return of many favourite Mabin traditions, namely the Annual BBQ, Skate Day, Movie Night and The Annual Book Exchange. These events are consistently well attended and supported strongly by our parent and staff volunteers. In June, we had a contingent of 32 educators from a province in South Korea visit. They were astounded by the quality of the students’ work, and their ability to ask questions and solve problems. Next year Mabin will have a resident storyteller on Friday mornings. Dan Yashinsky is a storyteller, writer, and teacher. He founded 1001 Friday Nights of Storytelling in l978, which turned into the world’s longest-running storytelling series.
